1. From where did the peddler get the idea of the world being a rattrap?
Ans:- The peddler got the idea of the world being a rattrap from us because naturally he had been thinking about his own rattrap. Suddenly one day he fallen into a line of thought that the whole world is nothing but a big rattrap.
2. Why was he amused by this idea?
Ans:- He was amused by this idea because the world had never been very kind to him. So he always think ill of the world and got unwonted joy.
3. Did the peddler expect the kind of hospitality that he received from the crofter?
Ans:- The peddler did not expect the kind of hospitality that he received from the crofter because whereever he was chased away.
4. Why was the crofter so talk ative and friendly with the peddler?
Ans:-The crofter was so talkative and friendly with the peddler because he was alone in his cottage. He lived without his wife or children. So he was very happy to get someone to talk in his loneliness.
5. Why did he show the thirty kroner to the peddler?
Ans:-The crofter show his thirty kroner to the peddler because when the crofter told him that he had earn 30 kroner with the help of his cow. At this point the stranger must have seemed incredulous for the old man got up and went to the window and took down a leather pouch and show the money.
6. Did the peddler respect the confidence reposed in him by the crofter?
Ans:- The peddler did not respect the confidence reposed in him by the crofter because the crofter gave him a warm welcome as well as entertained him but he in return the peddler theft his money and fled away.
7. What made the peddler think that he had indeed fallen into a rattrap?
Ans:- When the peddler theft the money of crofter. He was very happy with his smartless. He realised that the public highway was not safe for him so he turn off the road and went into Woods. The forest was so big and confusing. The peddler gotten into it and could not find the way to come out. When he sank down on the ground. As soon as he laid his head on the ground he recalled his thought about the world and the rattrap. It all made him think that he had indeed fallen into the rattrap.
8. Why did the ironmaster speak kindly to the peddler and invite him home?
Ans:- The ironmaster spoke kindly and invite him home because as soon as the ironmaster saw the peddler he fallen into a mistake and thought that he was his old regimental comred.
9. Why did the peddler decline the invitation?
Ans:- The peddler decline the invitation because he thought of the thirty kroner and realised to go to manor house would be like throwing himself voluntarily into the lion's dens.
10. What made the peddler accept Edla Willimansson's invitation?
Ans:- When Edla willmansson came into the ironmill. She found that the peddler was sleeping near the forge. She went there and introduced himself. She spoke him very kindly and invited in home such a friendly manner that the peddler felt his confidence in her. It was kind behaviour of Edla which made the peddler axcept the invitation.
11. What doubt did Edla have about the peddler?
Ans:-Edla have some doubt about the peddler.She thought either he has stolen something else he has expect from jail.
12. When did the ironmaster realise his mistake?
Ans:-When the peddler came in broad daylight before the ironmaster. The peddler was in well dress or clean shave. As soon as the ironmaster realise his mistake.
13. What did the peddler say in his defence when it was clear that he was not the person the ironmaster had thought he was?
Ans:-The peddler told that it was not his fault in his defence , when it was clear that he was not the person the ironmaster had thought he was.
14. Why did Edla sill entertain the peddler even after she knew the truth about him?
Ans:- Edla still entertain the peddler even after knew the truth because Edla says a human being whom we have invited home and promised to cheer Christmas Eve would not be humanity to chased him away.
15.Why was Edla happy to see the gift left by the peddler?
Ans:- Edla was very happy to see the gift left by the peddler because his gift was symbol of his changing. There was a gift in which the peddler had left a small rattrap and a letter written in jagget character in the letter it was introduced that the peddler had clear himself and changed his ways.
16. Why did the peddler sign himself as captain Von Stahle?
Ans:- The peddler signed himself as captain Von Stahle because Edla address him as a captain. The peddler thought he would have been caught in this world's rattrap if he could not been raised to a captain.
